Update: Our 2009 Fundraiser is almost sold out. Because we are accepting tickets via post as well, we ask that you contact us before making an online purchase. Please e-mail joshua@wordswithoutborders.org for details. Many people who cannot attend have asked if they could make a donation and that's possible. To support Words without Borders in bringing literary voices from around the world into English, we will be hosting a fundraiser on November 9, 2009, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Paul Holdengräber, Director of Public Programs at the NYPL, will host a program of readings by Paul Auster, Siri Hustvedt, and Peter Schneider. After a Central and Eastern European dinner, Dean Wareham (musician, and former frontman of the bands Galaxie 500 and Luna) will DJ.

Words without Borders is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the translation, publication, and promotion of the finest international literature. Since 2003 WWB has published more than 1,200 pieces from writers in more than 111 countries and 90 languages. We’ve curated five acclaimed anthologies, Literature from ‘“The Axis of Evil,” Words Without Borders: The World through the Eyes of Writers; The Wall in My Head: Words and Images from the Fall of the Iron Curtain, The Ecco Anthology of International Poetry, and Tablet & Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East. In 2012 we will launch an education program with resources and materials that enable high school and college educators to bring contemporary international literature into the classroom.
